Kanteibyo, Guan Yu Temple
Guan Yu was a prominent general of the Shu Kingdom in the Three Kingdom Period, then became the god of business.
He is still popularly worshipped today among the Chinese people.
Kanteibyo was founded in 1862 when a Chinese migrant brought a wooden sculpture of Guan Yu from China and enshrined it in a modest temple. And then the first full-dress Kanteibyo was built in 1871.
The temple was destroyed by disasters many times, but every time the people rebuilt it.
The present building is the fourth Kanteibyo completed in 1990.
